I am a freelance writer and speaker living in Grand Rapids, Michigan with my high-school sweetheart husband. We have two grown children and two precious grandchildren.
I enjoy writing creative non-fiction works about our travels on a boat or motorcycle, memoirs, poetry, and devotionals. When walking outdoors in nature’s beauty, I receive much inspiration. My current project is a devotional book compilation sharing areas of proper self-care and lessons learned after surviving brain surgery.
Published work appearances can be found in:
- Internet Café Devotions – http://www.internetcafedevotions.com/2009/09/cheerful- heart.html
- Rider, article entitled, “U.P. from the Back Seat” http://www.ridermagazine.com/output.cfm?id=1451359
- Sailing, the Beauty of Sail
- Women’s Lifestyle
- Thunder Roads of Michigan
- West Michigan Christian Newspaper
- War Cry (Salvation Army magazine)
- Various newsletters
I communicate my love of journaling to writers’ groups, MOPS (Mothers of Pre-Schoolers), and Salvation Army corps officers. I also speak to Bible study groups about proper self-care and lessons learned after surviving brain surgery.

Deb
Hi Deb, long time no talk to…I was priviledged to actually ride with Shelly Beach for 8+ hours to Iowa and back again! She’s way ahead of me in her published books, but so human and full of knowledge.
What a great Web site! I love your various columns and daily musings. Your life sounds joy-filled and reverent. It can’t get much better than that! I remember when we weren’t sure you were going to make it, and your life now is a wonderful testament to God’s healing power. I’m so proud of your progress and can’t wait to see what you will accomplish next.
Dear AJ,
It’s amazing how a health issue can re-arrange priorities for you – in this case, in a good way! I have so much to be thankful for…every day is a new day filled with fresh opportunities. I am so thankful for your support and encouragment along the way these past several years. I can look to you for inspiration and correction–two qualities that writers need daily! Just received confirmation of a Feature Story in the “Rider” magazine due to be published in a few months. This manuscript describes our travels on our motorcycle south through the Smokies and beyond. Can’t wait to see the copy! I’ve also sold a couple of devotional pieces: one in “War Cry” and one on-line. I’m still plugging! love ya, Teresa
Hi Teresa-
I read through the complete blog to bring me up to date while I’m awaiting news about Audrey. Spinal fluid is leaking and we are waiting for the doctor’s decision.
Your writings filled me with devotion and the willingness to gear up to further action from God. We cannot possibly know His thoughts and plans, but He has seen us through Audrey’s plight thus far and know He will see us to the end. Your story of healing is so inspirational.
Use your talents daily, Dear Girl. You are helping many people.
Love, Hugs, Kisses,
Aunt Jackie
Dear AJ,
I’m glad you took the time to read through my blog. The words you use, “devotion” and “inspirational” are what I’m striving for in writing. I want people to see God through me and my actions, and realize there is hope in the midst of trials. We’ll keep praying for Audrey – the Great Physician is not finished yet!
Teresa – Thank you for your recent article on Internet Cafe Devotions! I am a guest barista for them as well. I was so encouraged by your post as I too experience surgery for a tumor. Philippians 4 is a great passage that I go to when I worry that it will come back, or that the after effects will be too much for me eventually. So, thank you for sharing your heart!
I, too, know Shelly Beach, and she has been a wonderful encouragement to me in my writing! Blessings, Joanna
You are so welcome, Joanna! I am thankful to God you were encouraged by my Internet Cafe Devotions post. It is good to meet a fellow-traveler re: health issues. Shelly Beach is a great source of knowledge & encouragement. Blessing and One day at a time, Teresa
